ODESSA NATIONAL MARITIME UNIVERSITY, abbreviated as ONMU was established on June 12, 1930, as the Odessa Institute of Water Transport Engineers. (OIIVT). In 1945, it was renamed the Odessa Institute of Marine Engineers (OIIMF) and then again in 1994 to Odessa State Maritime University. The University was awarded National status by the Decree of the President of Ukraine on February 26, 2002, and renamed to ODESSA NATIONAL MARINE UNIVERSITY. It has the highest (IV) level of educational accreditation and is under direct subordination of the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine It ranked 9th in “Compass 2012” as one of the best universities in Ukraine.

ODESSA NATIONAL MARITIME UNIVERSITY, abbreviated as ONMU was established on June 12, 1930, as Odessa National Maritime University has trained international students for the maritime industry since 1950. International students from 90 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America have successfully graduated from the University. Every year more than 6000 students complete their education here. Odesa National Maritime Academy is still considered to be the only educational establishment that trains qualified officers for the marine transport of foreign vessels. Nowadays 245 foreign students from 31 countries are studying at the Academy. During the period from 1950 till 2009 more than 1000 cadets from 86 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America, including the near abroad countries, such as the Russian Federation, Moldova, Georgia, etc., graduated from the Academy.

The facilities of NU”OMA”: 7 educational buildings, cadet’s town (crew) with 4 residential buildings, a canteen with buttery, a sports complex, a modern medical and sanitary center, an Olympic standard swimming pool, fitness halls and gyms, a mini-stadium, a water station on the sea-shore, dining places by 1200 with modern equipment cafe, club.

The training sailing ship “Friendship” was built in Poland for NU”OMA”.

The eligibility criteria for Engineering in Ukraine for Indian students are as follows:
  • Age limits for admission – 17 years to 25 years.
  • Students must complete 10+2 (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) from a regular board of India or abroad.
  • Students that studied under open board or correspondence classes are not eligible.
  • Minimum 50% combined aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • NEET qualification (with a 50% score for the general un-reserved category) is a must if the student intends to practice in India after the MBBS study in Ukraine.
